The active element of the Apex210 is a very thin corrugated aluminum ribbon mounted under low tension between the poles of a strong magnet. This classic design delivers the warmest and most natural sound reproduction available from virtually any style of studio microphone. The ribbon element in the microphone can 'sag' if the microphone is stored horizontally for long periods of time, and this will degrade the microphone's overall performance. Although there is a protection circuit in series with the microphone's integrated XLR cable input, accidents can happen. If voltage does make it to the microphone element, it could irreparably damage the ribbon.
