Note: You can select the number of rings that must occur before the product receives a fax using the Rings to Answer setting (& "Selecting send/receive settings" on page 9). If you want to set or adjust contrast, follow the steps below. [ Fax] button until you see this Receiving a fax When the product receives a fax with Auto Answer mode turned on, the message Printing appears on the LCD screen. When the product receives a fax in manual answer mode, the connected phone begins ringing. Once you answer the phone to confirm that the call is a fax, press x Start D [x Start B&W] or x Start E [x Start Color] button to receive the fax. The message Printing appears on the LCD screen. Note: You cannot choose the color to print the fax data. Press the y Stop [y Cancel/Back] button until you return to the first screen. Receiving Faxes The product automatically receives and prints faxes in Auto Answer mode. However, you may want to receive faxes manually if you connected the product and a phone or answering machine to a phone line that also receives voice calls. Then you can check for a fax tone from the sending fax machine and press a button on the product to receive the fax, or allow your answering machine to determine if the call is an incoming fax. Note: Make sure you selected the Paper Size setting that matches the size of paper you have loaded. If the incoming fax pages are larger than the paper size you loaded, the fax size is reduced to fit or printed on multiple pages, depending on the Automatic Reduction setting you select (& "Selecting send/receive settings" on page 9). After the product receives all the pages, it begins printing the fax. When it is finished, you see the first screen. Note: If you run out of paper during printing, an error message informs you that there is no paper in the sheet feeder. If you see any other error messages, see & "Error Messages" on page 31. 14 Faxing a Photo or Document Handling Paper Epson offers an extensive line of special papers that provide outstanding results when used with Epson printers and ink. Select g [Photo Paper]. If you need to stop copying, press the y Stop [y Cancel/Back] button. Note: If the edges of the copy are cropped off, move the original away from the corner slightly. Select the paper size you loaded. Tip: If you want to automatically resize the copy to the size of paper that you loaded, press the r [r Copy] button until you see Copies:xx FitPage on the LCD screen. Speeding Up Copying If you want to make a copy quickly and do not need high quality, you can print a "draft" copy. Load A4-size plain paper and select l [Plain Paper] and A4 on the control panel. When you are ready to copy, press and hold down the y Stop [y Cancel/Back] button, then press and hold down the x Start E [x Start Color] button (to copy in color) or the x Start D [x Start B&W] button (to copy in black and white). Copies:1 FitPage Press the x Start E [x Start Color] button to make a color copy. If you need to stop copying, press the y Stop [y Cancel/Back] button. Note: If the edges of the copy are cropped off, move the original away from the corner slightly. 18 Copying Printing from a Memory Card You can print photos directly from your digital camera's memory card. Make sure the memory card light is off and no memory cards are in the slots. Then insert your memory card. Handling a Memory Card Compatible cards Make sure your memory card meets the following requirements. Card type CompactFlash, Microdrive, Smart Media, SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, miniSD card, miniSDHC card, microSD card, microSDHC card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Magic Gate Memory Stick, Magic Gate Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, xD-Picture Card, xD-Picture Card Type M xD-Picture Card Type H DCF (Design rule for Camera File system) version 1. 0 or 2. 0 compliant All card types standard version compliant. File format Image size Number of files JPEG with the Exif Version 2. 21 standard 80 × 80 pixels to 9200 × 9200 pixels Up to 999 memory card light Media format Inserting a memory card 1. Open the memory card slot cover. CompactFlash Microdrive xD-Picture Card xD-Picture Card Type M xD-Picture Card Type H Printing from a Memory Card 19 English SD Memory Card SDHC Memory Card MultiMediaCard SmartMedia c Caution: miniSD card* miniSDHC card* (* Adapter required) microSD card* microSDHC card* Make sure you check which direction the card should be inserted, and if the card needs an adapter make sure you attach the adapter before inserting the card. Otherwise, you may not be able to remove the card from the product. 5. Close the memory card slot cover. c Caution: Do not insert more than one memory card at a time. Forcing a memory card into the slot may damage the product, the memory card, or both. Keep the memory card slot cover closed while a memory card is inserted. [. . . ] Try loading fewer sheets of paper. Print quality problems You see banding (light lines) in your printouts or copies. Clean the print head (& "Checking the print head" on page 28). Make sure you select the correct paper type (& "Selecting Paper" on page 15). Make sure the printable (whiter or glossier) side of the paper is face-up. The ink cartridges may need replacing (& "Removing and installing ink cartridges" on page 26). [. . . ]
