[. . . ] Resolving a low battery level when external power is available To resolve a low battery level when external power is available, connect one of the following devices: AC adapter Optional expansion product or docking device Optional power adapter Resolving a low battery level when a charged battery is available To resolve a low battery level when a charged battery is available: 1. Turn on the computer. Resolving a low battery level when no power source is available To resolve a low battery level when no power source is available, initiate Hibernation, or save your work and then shut down the computer. Resolving a low battery level when the computer cannot exit Hibernation To resolve a low battery level when the computer cannot exit Hibernation: 1. Press the Power button to exit Hibernation. Using battery power 51 Calibrating a battery Calibrate the battery when: The battery charge displays seem inaccurate. You observe a significant change in battery run time. A heavily used battery should only be calibrated once a month. NOTE: The battery charges while the computer is off or in use, but it charges faster when the computer is off. Connect the computer to an AC adapter, optional power adapter, optional expansion product, or optional docking device, and then connect the adapter or device to an external power source. Leave the computer connected to external power until the battery is fully charged. c. Click the Battery Meter icon in the notification area, and then click More power options. ­ or ­ Select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options. The hard drive speed does not decrease automatically when the computer is idle. Connect the computer to external power until the battery is fully recharged. The computer can be used while the battery is recharging, but the battery charges faster if the computer is off. If the computer is off, turn it on when the battery is fully charged. 5.
