Tandberg StorageLibrary T128 User's Guide 71 72 Getting Information Updating Library and Tape Drive Firmware There may be times when you will need to update your library's firmware as directed by technical support. You can also regularly monitor the Tandberg Data Support website at http://www. tandberg. com for firmware updates, but you need to make sure that the firmware you download is compatible with your library and tape drives. Note Check the information provided on the Tandberg Data Support website at www. tandberg. com to verify that you are selecting the correct firmware version to download. There are two types of firmware that can be updated on the library: library firmware (including drive sled firmware) and tape drive firmware. You can download library and tape drive firmware updates from the Tandberg Data Support website. You can also use the web client interface to update one or more tape drives in your library with an image file downloaded from the Tandberg Data Support website. Note that updating tape drive firmware using an image file is a lengthy process, taking up to 90 minutes for each tape drive. In addition, you can create a Firmware Update (FUP) tape of a tape drive firmware version already installed in your library. You can use the tape to transfer firmware to one or more tape drives installed in the library. This chapter explains how to use the Update Library Firmware and Drive Operations commands on the Tools menu to update firmware. Updating Library Firmware Using the Update Library Firmware command on the web client interface, you can install new library firmware. Note This operation should not be performed concurrently by multiple administrative users. You can access the screen, but you cannot apply changes while another administrative user is performing the same operation. Tandberg StorageLibrary T128 User's Guide 73 Saving the current library configuration before you update library firmware is recommended. If, in the future, you need to downgrade to a previous version of the library firmware, you will lose your configured settings, except for the date and time, license key, and network settings. You can either restore the other configurable items using a configuration file that was saved when the earlier version of library firmware was installed on the library, or you can reconfigure your library's settings. For more information, see About Saving and Restoring the Configuration on page 155. It is also a good idea to capture a snapshot of current logged information before making any significant change to your system such as upgrading library firmware. Service personnel can, if necessary, use the snapshot file to troubleshoot the library. For more information, see Capturing Snapshots of Library Information on page 155. Update the library firmware using the following steps: 1 2 Before downloading firmware, save the library configuration and capture a library snapshot. For more information on these two operations, see Troubleshooting on page 153. Access the Tandberg Data Support website at http://www. tandberg. com and download the firmware file to your personal computer. On the Tandberg Data Support website, navigate to your product's firmware. Select the appropriate firmware version and download the file to your computer hard drive. 3 4 5 6 From the web client, select Tools > Update Library Firmware. [. . . ] Snapshot A rapid, point-in-time image of a volume created initially on the same disk as the original by duplicating metadata rather than copying the full data set. Snapshots are often used to protect against data corruption (viruses, etc. ) or to create test or pre-production environments. Snapshots are also often used as a first step for creating non-disruptive point-in-time backups, and for copying datasets to a second disk to create a full duplicate copy of the volume. Snapshots are created on disk, and in the same format as the original data. [. . . ]
